Catalyst 8540 Electromagnetic Interference Kits for Port Adapter Modules
Overview
Cisco Systems, Inc. is providing superior investment protection with the Catalyst® 8540 multiservice switch router as existing LS-1010 Port Adapter Modules (PAMs) can be deployed in this next-generation chassis. All LS-1010 PAMs, with the exception of ATM 25, are capable of being redeployed in the Catalyst 8540.
PAMs purchased since December 1, 1998 are electromagnetic interference (EMI) compliant if deployed in the Catalyst 8540. Port adapter modules purchased prior to that date will require an EMI upgrade before they can be deployed in the Catalyst 8540. The table below gives details of those modules affected.

The EMI kit is only required if the PAMs are deployed in the Catalyst 8540. This is a zero cost item and can be ordered as a spare using the part number detailed below. One kit per PAM will be required.
